Wheeler Takes Williston

In a stunning display of strategic prowess coupled with an unrelenting desire to see his competitor's legs bleeding in agony, Team Wooly Mammoth captain Benedict Wheeler dug deep into his suitcase of courage to out sprint a hard charging Onion River Sports racer and secure the first TWM cyclo-cross victory of the 2007 campaign.
the romantic and picturesque town of Williston Vermont was turned into a bloody, sodden battleground on Saturday as Wheeler inflicted grievous injury on everyone who dared challenge the might of TWM. in the end, a pile of crimson stumps clad in Black Sidi's was all that remained of New England's cyclo-crossing freddys who took to the quaint pasture in search glory.
Wheeler's charge to victory began as the gun sounded and he shot to the front of the pack as the first turn of the brutal, serpentine course loomed ahead. what followed was a traditional display of the tactics which have resulted in so many TWM victories over the years. Wheeler led from the start, and lacking any teammates to share the workload, he dragged the rapidly splintering field around a long and tortuously technical course for the first half of the contest. the blistering pace he set caused numerous riders to cry out in agony as they fell back to try and recover what remained of their shattered pride and manhood.
soon, Wheeler had what he desired, open fields ahead of him, and only one struggling rider left on his back wheel to toy with. in a gesture of kindness Wheeler consented to let his beleaguered foe lead the race for a few minutes of the last lap before passing him on the last turn of the race and then dealing him the coup de grace on a tough, grinding uphill sprint to the line. with plenty in the tank, Wheeler was able to easily hold off his only real competitor of the day in true Zabel-esque fashion. "I had two or three more kicks in my legs if i needed them, but all I heard was the sound of terror and anguish behind me, and i knew then, that the afternoon was to be bathed in the glow of the artic rainbow." ///P

I would like to extend my deepest congratulations to Mr. Wheeler on his unprecedented cyclo-cross domination over the weekend.

I was lucky enough to witness this annihilation first hand along with Coach Newell, which I might add did an exquisite job of coaching Mr. Wheeler on his way to a victorious victory!
